St. John’s Newfoundland is located on the eastern point of the island of Newfoundland. This point is known as the Avalon Peninsula.
St. John’s Newfoundland is a city of just over 100,000 people. With the rural areas included their population goes up to over 180,000 people. It is the largest city in the province of Newfoundland and the capital city. It is second only to Halifax for size in the Atlantic Provinces that include Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island.
The city is the oldest founded city in North America. It’s economy used to be based on the fishing industry but now with the oil field discoveries, the economy is changing.
