Of particular concern for substance abusers is hepatitis B and C because these diseases can be transmitted through contaminated needle exchange. Also 40 to 60% of alcohol abusers who have cirrhosis of the liver have some form of hepatitis. Hepatitis A is also discussed. All aspects of the causes, transmission and treatment are presented.
