Did Kitty Have An Accident On Your Carpet?
One of the most dreaded cat behavior problem is when cats aren’t using their littler box, particularly when they are spraying or urinating on the carpet. Because the urine seeps in and saturates the carpet and carpet pad it can be really difficult to clean. Luckily there are a few good products out there to help with this.
If you want a do-it-yourself homemade way to remove cat urine from the carpet you can use two parts water and one part white vinegar, saturate the area, let it sit for a while then blot dry. Vinegar helps neutralize the ammonia in cat urine. But if you don’t like the smell of vinegar and want to buy something that will truly work buy a good enzyme cleaner made for pet odors and stains.
The process for the enzyme cleaner is similar to that of the vinegar and water mixture. Saturate the full area enough so the carpet pad is treated as well, let sit then blot dry. If you still smell urine repeat the process. With either solution test a small unseen area of carpet before treating a large area to make sure it won’t discolor your carpet.
To avoid this type of behavior keep a close eye on your cat’s health as health problems can cause this behavior. The other big cause is cat stress from new people or pets coming into or leaving the house, moving to a new home and age-related problems like arthritis just to name a few.
