Is Xanax consumption considered as a drug addiction?

Our family physician prescribed Xanax for my mom’s tension and panic attacks. Lately, I’ve noticed that she’s taking in more than what’s required. Is my mom a drug abuser? Does she need treatment?
If your mom’s consuming more Xanax than what’s prescribed by the doctor, then she may be abusing it. Although Xanax has beneficial effects, over consumption of it also has negative effects. I think it’s time to intervene with your mother. I’ll post some sites where you can find tips for intervention and lists of rehabs that may provide treatment.

If your mom is taking a significant amount over the prescribed amount and does this chronically over a period of time, then, yes, she is certainly abusing the drug. I know this from personal experience from when i was taking Valium. I ended up in the hospital because I got so carried away. See if you can approach her and get her to stop before it’s too late.
