Should parents who introduce their children to alcohol be classified as child abusers ?

In France, just as an example, it is quite usual for children to be given alcohol. I think that they should not be allowed alcohol until they are adults, and they can then make their own choice. If it was cigarettes, drugs or sex people would be be in a rage about it. Why the difference?

France does not have the problem of problem drinkers. Children in France learn by example, how to drink. They are at the dinner table, watching, listening and joining in the conversation. In Britain at dinner, they are stuck in front of the T.V with a warning to keep quiet while the programme is on or, even worse, alone in their bedrooms watching T.V. So, to answer your question No, it is not child abuse to introduce children to the controlled and responsible use of alcohol. It is child abuse when parents are indifferent to their children’s welfare and put T.V before their children’s upbringing.
