Cheap Rabbit Hutches: What Cage Size is Best?

February 5, 2010 - 6:04 pm No Comments

One question we get asked all the time is “what size rabbit cage should I buy?”

The answer is it “depends”.

If your rabbit will be spending most time in their cage which is usually the case, then the more room you can provide, the better.

Generally speaking, when deciding on the right size rabbit cage, select a cage that is about 4 times the size of your rabbit.

If we look at specifics, smaller rabbit breeds (ie: dwarf rabbits) which weigh less than 3-1/2 pounds, need at least 2-1/2 sq ft of cage space. This allows them to grow w/o you having to buy a bigger cage at some point down the road.

Small rabbit breeds that weigh between two and a half to five lbs will need up to three and a half sq ft of cage space.

Medium size rabbit breeds weighing from 4-1/2 to 7 pounds can require up to 5 sq ft of cage space. And lastly, the giant breeds which can weigh up to 25 pounds need cage space of at least 11-12 sq ft.

In addition, when purchasing a hutch for a large rabbit, look closely at the material that the cage is made of. Stronger cages are a must for obvious reasons.

Don’t purchase a rabbit cage w/o first checking out the cheap rabbit hutches we have available (in all sizes).

It is best to always make sure to reward them when they do something good, or else they forget the training. They should always be walked with a leash. They are a vocal breed. They howl or bark when they want something. They sometimes will use a low, murmuring whine to beg for food or to get attention. Some Basset hound owners believe their dogs are talking when they do this.

Precautions to Take for Jumping Fish

January 29, 2010 - 9:24 am No Comments

Many types of fish like to jump out of the water; such as hatchet fish, or yellow swordtails. When you purchase an aquarium you should make sure that the tank has a lid on it. Many times with new aquariums all you will get is an over head light. You should choose one which will also cover the entire top of the fish tank. This will stop and fish from jumping out of the tank. Whenever you purchase a fish it is a good idea to ask if the fish you want likes to jump; if they do not know, be cautious.
