Under what circumstance would you hire a known ex-felon or recovering substance abuser (alcohol or drugs)?

in the question?

I’d hire ‘em if I knew them and their motivation. I wouldn’t hire them if I new nothing about them. Some of these guys/gals are some of the hardest workers you’ll find, some are just looking for another con. If they are serious about getting their life straight then it wouldn’t be a problem.

my first response would be none,, under no circumstance.

Then on second thought, if I was planning on pulling off some type of crime, I might employ someone with experience to advise me.

But after writing this,, I’m back to never,, I’d want someone with full use of their brain, and would not want the liability.

I would hire someone that was truly trying to improve their life. I admire people that work so hard on changing their behavior, and I have worked alongside ex-cons, and recovering addicts, and they were always much harder workers, better people, and there wasn’t a one of them that I didn’t feel I could trust. Let me put that in perspective- I am five feet tall, and most of these people were men, and usually a foot taller than me. Not one of them tried anything, and were much more respectful and decent human beings than your average male.

why be narrow minded – if you feel that the person is trying do the right thing and is willing to work – who do you know that has not made a mistake that is working for you now – look at all the people that ran Enron and Tyco and HP that have squeaky clean records – not to mention you have no idea about the reasons that this person ended up doing what they did -

alcohol isn’t illegal-so why punish someone for drinking it. but as for felons-never under any circumstances should you hire a felon-unless you have cameras on that person while he or she is working for you. There are companies that will hire felons for tax breaks, but if you arent equipped for it,dont do it.
