has there ever been a case where a child is abused and the parents defend the abuser?

i just don’t get it. i have a friend who’s been abused. she’s been abused by her brother and her dad. they used to beat her, and say nasty things. she went to the school counselor and everything, but the mom defends the abusers. the school takes the mother’s side. the daughter continues to get abused at home. that’s what happened to her. but she’s okay now. i find this terrible. is there any case where a child is abused but the parents neglect the child and defends the abuser?
It is sad, but it does happen all the time.
